RULES
BE KIND. This should go without saying, but please treat others as you'd wish to be treated. The Atlas operates on a
three-strike policy which means if we receive three separate reports of poor behavior from a player we will kick them from the game.
Harassment and hostile behavior
will not be tolerated and are immediately bannable offenses
regardless of where it takes place. This includes anon comms, IMs, and Plurk. Although we will not police or monitor these mediums we will act accordingly if a complaint is brought to us. Our game is meant to be a fun, friendly, and inclusive environment so please--just be nice. We reserve the right to pre-ban individuals seen as being risks for this behavior.
COMMUNICATE. If you have an issue with another player, please try to work it out between yourselves first before bringing it to the mods. Often times a little communication is all that's needed to resolve an issue. If for some reason you are uncomfortable dealing with a player and require mod intervention, please feel free to contact us.
This applies to the mods as well: our aim is to to be open about communication and make ourselves accessible to the concerns and inquiries of our players.
Please do not send emails or PPs to get a hold of a mod. Instead contact us either via the
FAQ for general/game inquiries or the
Mod Contact page for plot, OOC concerns & inquiries, or issues with a mod/the mods.
Using the correct means of getting in touch with us helps us minimize response time, keeps things organized, and makes sure nothing slips through the cracks.
LINK YOUR INFO. All characters are required to have a permissions post, personal HMD and their application posted in their journal. Please
respect these permissions and opt-outs when threading.
IC ≠ OOC. You are not your character. OOC influences should be kept out of character interactions; don't use your character to sandbox or treat others with a bias, and don't use OOC knowledge ICly about the game or a character when it has not been made available in game or through a permissions post. This is infomodding, and is a
strikeable offense.
ICA have ICC. As stated in the game's premise players and their characters have the ability to affect the game at large for good
or bad. Please respect that based on the actions taken by characters in-game, the "ideal outcome" may not always be possible. In some cases a neutral or friendly NPC may become hostile to characters or visa versa, but game-wise we will always ensure characters are not left stranded in an impossible situation.
AGE LIMIT. Although the game has a rating of
PG-13, you must be 16 or older to apply. Falsifying your age on an application is a
bannable offence, so please just be honest.
LABEL ENTRIES APPROPRIATELY. If your posts contain graphic or otherwise NSFW content please label them with the appropriate warnings. While The Atlas does not disallow sex in-game, we ask that you either fade to black or move it to a private musebox.
USE CHARACTER TAGS. Doing this helps us track activity as well as keep things organized. Character tags follow western format:
(first name, last name). Your character will be assigned a tag upon acceptance to the game, so please be sure to use it whenever you post or tag into an entry.
ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERS. Canon characters, Original characters, and Canon AU characters (such as MCU vs comics or Final Fantasy vs Kingdom Hearts) are all acceptable. We will allow
(2) versions of a character in the game at any time. i.e. Steven Rogers from MCU, and Steven Rogers as he's portrayed in the comics.
Fandom OCs from series such as mmos (WoW) and tabletops (D&D) are also acceptable, as are silent protagonists (Persona, Zelda, Half-Life etc). However, they
will be judged more harshly than regular canon characters.
Due to the nature of the game characters should be
at least 14 years old either physically or mentally. Finally, any application for a canon character that must rely on headcanon or conjecture in order to provide adequate insight into a character's motivations or personality will not be accepted. If you are uncertain about whether or not your character is acceptable, head on over to our
FAQ and ask!
CHARACTER LIMIT. You may apply for
(1) character per app cycle, to a maximum of
(2) characters per person.
BE ACTIVE. Activity Check occurs monthly from the
28th at 00:00 EST to the
30th at 23:59 EST. During this time AC is
closed and players cannot submit anything further. This means that all activity must be submitted each month before 23:59 EST on the 27th. Players are required to meet
one (1) of following Activity Requirements every month to remain in game:
- (1) post by your character with at least (10) comments from your character
- (2) threads with at least (10) comments from your character per thread†
†These must be separate threads, i.e. you may link (2) separate threads from one top-level comment, but not the top-level comment itself. If you link a top-level comment it will only count as (1) thread. If you fail to make AC or otherwise idle from the game you will need to wait
(1) app cycle before you can reapply.
In order to be exempt from AC you must be on hiatus for at least
(14) days of that month to qualify. Consecutive (back to back) hiatuses are not allowed; players must pass the next two AC periods before they are allowed to hiatus for AC exemption again. Retroactive hiatuses and hiatus extensions are
only allowed under extenuating circumstances.
The Atlas
does not use a strike system for AC. If you miss it or fail to provide the required AC your character will be dropped from the game. For more information, please see the
Hiatus page.
USE THE DROP POST. Please let us know if you intend to drop a character by replying to our
drop post. Again, it helps us keeps things organized and save us a lot of time if you do! Failure to use this post by idling out results in a
(1) app cycle penalty and
being unable to reapp that character with in-game memories. This means if you idle out you can't re/apply for a character until after the next app period.
i.e. Sally idles out in January. When February's app round comes up, Sally cannot apply and must wait until March.
DAY RATIO. The Atlas is on an IC/OOC ratio of 1:2, meaning 1 day in-game = 2 days IRL.
