Canon Updates
CANON UPDATESCanon updates can occur at any time throughout the game and players are free to use this system to update their characters' memories only. Canon updates cannot be used to physically change a character; it is an immediate mental process which has no "down time" or "coma". Once you're approved fro a canon update you may implement it straightaway! ![]() UPDATE: Y/N? When your character selects "Yes" they will suddenly freeze in place and become unresponsive as their eyes twitch rapidly and a blue, data transfer-like film runs over them. This lasts up to (1) minute before the update is complete and they begin repeating all actions and words from the last (5) minutes. At the end of this the character snaps back to awareness with their canon update complete. If you would like to canon update your character please fill out the following form with "CANON UPDATE | CHARACTER NAME" in the subject line and post it in a comment below. Once approved by a mod you will be allowed to update your character to the specified point at anytime. Canon updates are instantaneous and do not physically affect characters. Please direct all questions regarding canon updates to our FAQ. | |
CANON UPDATE | CLARA OSWALD
Character Name: Clara Oswald |
Current Canon Point: 7.13
Desired Canon Point: 9.12
Summary of Changes:
At the canon point Clara currently is from, she believes she will die and is not at peace with that in game. Updating her will give her a canon point where she knows she is indeed dead, but she has grown enough as a character where she is at peace with what happens. From the seventh to ninth series of canon, Clara grows a lot as a character. She is less whimsical and fickle in nature and in a sense grows up while still keeping her curious nature and a love of adventure. Clara matures as she faces tough situations that show her the harsh realities of the universe, and force her to confront the fact that she develops traits that aren't necessarily positive. She becomes much more reckless in her time with the Doctor, particularly after his regeneration into the Twelfth Doctor. Her connection to him becomes very intense and unhealthy, to the point where she understands that she has to manipulate his memories of her and wipe his memories of her entirely so he won't destroy entire planets just to keep her with him.
Clara's character arc takes a darker turn as she progresses with the Twelfth Doctor, becoming much more manipulative and controlling. While she has always been quick thinking, her thinking becomes more like the Doctor, where she thinks less of the greater good and more in terms of what will keep what she cares for the most safe and alive. Clara has to make a lot of hard choices in series 8 and 9, and learns to lie her way around her choices. She meets Danny Pink in series 8 and he becomes her boyfriend. While Clara enjoys having a tie down to Earth and a boyfriend there when it's convenient for her, she is not a good girlfriend to Danny at all. She's always up and leaving him to travel with the Doctor, and lies to him regularly about where she is and who she's with. She does care for Danny and wants to tell him that she loves him, but the fact that she also loves the Doctor and her relationship with the Doctor is much more intense and consuming to her keeps her lying to both men in order to keep traveling the way she wants to. When Clara starts out in series 7, she is eager to travel but insists on keeping her life on Earth in order. She only allows the Doctor to take her out on Wednesdays. By the time it's the end of her run in series 9, her life on Earth is an afterthought. She's committed herself fully to going where she wants, when she wants to, and adventure is her life. She transformed from companion to a Doctor figure in her own right, and her story arc ends with her accepting the fact that her death is locked in and must happen, but she is able to travel in her own TARDIS with her own companion and take full control over when she meets her end. Emotionally, she matures a great deal and learns to accept and embrace her faults and use them to her advantage.
I think this would come in useful in game because she would stop second guessing herself and would be able to step up and take less of a backseat sidekick role. It would put her at a point where she would be able to take charge and feel like she was in control of her fate a little more, which would help her greatly from an emotional standpoint. She also wouldn't be as homesick or miss the Doctor as much at this canon point, which would help her be stronger all around as well.
